Why is RDP better than VNC On A Windows VPS

For those of you who have a vague idea of what an RDP is, let me clarify. RDP or ‘Remote Desktop Protocol’ is a software developed by Microsoft which lets a user gain control over another computer through a graphical interface. There are two versions for it: a client version which the user installs and a server version installed in the other computer. This allows the user to connect and use the main computer through his, at will.

But, like everything, there is its counterpart, by the name of VNC. Today, RDP trumps VNC by a mile. It has many advantages and is much more modern than VNC. First, let me tell you how VNC works. It is another software which uses a graphical desktop sharing system to remotely control another computer. Seems like one and the same thing doesn’t it? It’s not.

How? Well, starting off with the most obvious difference: the speed. Whatever you do, a VNC cannot be as fast as an RDP. The RDP is way ahead regarding speed and rate of work. There is an upgrade to the previous VNC where it uses a hook driver, but it still isn’t fast enough to pass RDP. Though it has made some major differences from the old version, which was even slower.

Apart from that, there is a major benefit of an RDP which narrows things down to save time and costs. An RDP basically works like a multi-user PC, making it much more convenient to carry out tasks which need to be done collectively. Let me give you a quick example.

Suppose there is a new update ready to be downloaded for one of your softwares, plus it also has additional security downloads and patches. Let’s also suppose that you have 40 total computers which need the upgrade installed. So basically, you would need to go around each and every computer and install the upgrade right? That would take 40 attempts to complete the procedure, which requires a lot of time.

Now what would happen if you were using an RDP? All you’d need to do is turn on one main computer, and download the upgrades. That’s it. Once you do that, all other computers will also download the same upgrade automatically. Ultimately, you would save a lot of time and it would make it a lot more convenient.

That shows how easy everything becomes with the use of RDP, and that is just one of the amazing benefits of RDP which cannot be emphasized enough. This includes low costs, reliability, mobility, higher security, enhanced features, upgrades etc. To describe it perfectly, the RDP is ‘clever’ and ‘smart’ in all these aspects compared to a VNC which can be considered ‘dumb’ in this respect. All in all, the RDP is considered as far more efficient than the VNC.
