A windows VPS, or Windows Virtual Private Server, is a specially allocated server which is hosted inside a hypervisor that is able to actually be configured with memory resources and a dedicated CPU, making it extremely efficient indeed, particularly from a business and trading standpoint. One great benefit of a windows VPS is that it comes with a specially customised and fully tailored setup which will help to ensure that any of your applications running will be doing so correctly, in the right environment, and on top of that you can also configure it with various roles and features to help your business meet its objectives. Forex traders in particular tend to absolutely adore using a windows VPS and it’s no wonder why considering just how beneficial they’re considered.

Forex trading basically makes reference to the exchanging of various foreign currencies from all over the world. Forex itself is the actual foreign exchange market, which is the biggest and most lucrative financial market in the entire world. Experts also refer to it as being the most liquid-like market due to the fact that it operates around the clock, 24/7 365 days a year. The infrastructure is also highly delicate because of the alterations in each currency rate. Because Forex trading is so time-sensitive, with literally every millisecond counting, a forex trader requires a secure, reliable, superfast, and superefficient internet service necessary for continual and successful trading. It doesn’t matter whether they’re operating from their own home via their own personal computer, or are working with a broker, a professional forex trader must be fully prepared for various challenges such as ISP connection issues, power outages etc. A windows VPS is a powerful tool for any forex trader, and to help get the most out of your VPS, here are a few forex-inspired hints and tips.

Obtain login instructions – Once your VPS has been created, you will next be sent an email which will contain your IP address and a few other basic instructions. In your web browser you should visit the IP address to allow you to obtain the unique RDP file. Next you should download the remote desktop shortcut, save it by right-clicking and then click on “general” before entering administrator as your username. Click, save and then click connect.

Update and tweak your VPS to suit your preferences – Obviously the first updates you should download will be windows security updates. Once you have installed all of the necessary updates however, you will then need to check your settings to make sure that they’re set to “download all updates but let me choose whether to install them”. This basically allows you to install any updates and restart the windows VPS in the evening or on a weekend when the forex market is closed.

Ensure you change the RDP port – The default port used by windows servers is port 3389, and often, as many people tend to use insecure and unsafe passwords, hackers can use special software that will scan the entire internet and scan every IP address possible to locate servers which happen to respond to the port 3389. Afterwards, the servers are hit by the hackers with dictionary password attempts until they are finally able to access your server. This may take days, it may take weeks, it may take months, it could even take years, but it is possible eventually. To prevent this however, the best advice would be to alter the port from port 3389, to any other port instead.

Disable your UAC security feature – Another top tip often recommended by forex traders is to disable the UAC security feature on your VPS. The reason for this is that it has been found to very heavily restrict access to the unique program files folder, instead utilising a new folder known as ‘program data’. Metatrader 4, a popular trading tool used by many forex traders is not compatible with UAC, and so as a result, to use this software, and other similar pieces, UAC must be disabled. Before disabling this feature however, always ensure that you backup any data or files that you consider to be important, just to be on the safe side.

Set password to “never expire” – By this, we don’t mean change the name of your password to “never expire” but rather that you should go into the settings and select the ‘never expire’ feature for your password. As your password should be secure, you won’t want to change it every few weeks, which is a default security feature implemented by windows to help keep access secure. All this does really is save you a little time in the future as although coming up with a new password is hardly the most challenging or time consuming of tasks, it can still be pretty frustrating.
